Ear Pinning Otoplasty

Ear Pinning OtoplastyUnderstanding Ear Pinning Surgery

Ear pinning surgery, or otoplasty, corrects protruding or large ears, and can have a beneficial effect on a person’s confidence and self-esteem at any age. While the procedure was once primarily performed on children, many adults who are unhappy with the size, shape, or appearance of their ears are using ear pinning surgery to bring a more natural shape to their ears and improve their facial symmetry. There is of course an element of risk with any surgical procedure, but ear pinning otoplasty is a relatively minimally-invasive procedure that only affects the outer ear, not the hearing of the patient. It is generally well-tolerated by patients of all ages.

Who is a Candidate for Ear Pinning Surgery
Children or adults whose ears are large, protruding, or uneven can benefit from this surgery. Since this surgery does not affect hearing, the only condition is that ears need to have reached full size, which typically occurs at four or five years of age. Adults who have had an unsuccessful or botched ear pinning procedure in the past have achieved wonderful results with a revision surgery. If you are unsure if ear pinning surgery is right for you or your child, browsing our gallery of before and after photos may make your decision easier.

Ear Surgery Procedure
Your ear pinning surgery can be performed at your plastic surgeon’s office, and will typically take one to three hours. The surgeon makes a small incision behind the ear, in the crease where the ear joins the head. To correct protruding ears, the surgeon then trims the cartilage, removing the necessary amount to allow the ear to lay closer to the head. In some cases, the surgeon will also shape the cartilage into a more pleasing form. Sutures may be used to ensure your ear heals in the desired position.

What to Expect After Ear Surgery
Once your ear pinning surgery is complete, your surgeon will apply soft thick dressings and possibly a headband, to hold your ears in the correct position as they heal. These will remain in place for a few days. You can expect some discomfort, as your ears will be swollen, bruised, and possibly numb. Once you heal, you should just have a thin scar that is virtually unnoticeable, as it will be hidden in the crease behind your ear. You should refrain from any activities that can cause your ear to be bent for at least a month, but can carefully return to a normal schedule after about five days. Children having this surgery can generally return to school in about seven days, as long as their recreation and playground time can be carefully monitored.

Most patients who undergo ear pinning surgeries are thrilled with the results, facing life with a new sense of confidence and self-assurance. If you are interested in an ear pinning otoplasty for yourself or your child, contact Dr. Berman for a private consultation by calling 461-417-0171 today.

Breast Augmentation Before and After

How Your Breasts Will Look and Feel While Healing

Breast augmentation surgery can give you the long-lasting beautiful look and confidence boost that you desire, but it’s important to remember that it won’t happen instantaneously. It’s natural to look at breast augmentation before and after photos and want to jump to the final result, but your body will have to go through a healing process before you get to that stage. After breast augmentation surgery, it will take some time for your breasts to settle to their new position, and this adjustment period can take weeks or even months. This can have an emotional impact that may be unsettling if you are unprepared. Having a realistic understanding of how your breasts will look and feel during this time will help make your healing process a relaxed, stress-free experience.

How Your Breasts Will Look

Immediately after breast augmentation surgery, your breasts may look like they are placed way too high. This is perfectly normal! Post-surgical swelling, especially when implants are placed under the muscle, can help exacerbate this effect. Your skin and tissue will need to adjust to your new shape. It will take some time, generally between three to six months, for your breasts to drop and settle into their final position.

Bruising and swelling is common after breast augmentation surgery, and your breasts may look oddly shaped during this adjustment period. They may appear uneven, with one breast larger, higher, or rounder than the other. Scar tissue under your incisions may also appear or feel lumpy at first. Keep in mind that these changes are temporary while your body heals, and six months down the road you should have the picture-worthy results you expected.
How Your Breasts Will Feel

After breast augmentation surgery, you may experience some tingling and itching in your breasts and nipples. You may also feel some occasional sharp, pulsating “zings” in your breast tissue throughout the healing process. This is perfectly normal and will disappear over time.

It can be hard to wait for your body to heal during the breast augmentation recovery process. But if you are the patient, remember it will take your body some time to adjust to your new shape, you will have a better outlook and a much easier recovery time.

It is natural to have a lot of questions and concerns about any surgical procedure you might undergo. Don’t hesitate to call us at 561-417-0171 to learn more about breast augmentation surgery, the recovery process, and to setup a consultation with Dr. Berman, Boca’s leading cosmetic plastic surgeon!

Natural Facelift

How to get a refreshed, youthful face that doesn't look artificial

One of the main concerns patients have when considering a facelift is the fear that it won’t look natural. We’ve all seen the victims of cosmetic surgery run amuck: women and men whose once beautiful faces have been stretched and pulled so that their features are virtually unrecognizable. You don’t want an artificial, over-tightened look that screams you’ve had work done; you just want to subtly turn back the clock, returning a younger, natural appearance to your visage so you look restored and reinvigorated. That’s what Dr. Jonathan Berman’s Natural Lift is designed to do. It refreshes the appearance of your features, smoothing out wrinkles and restoring volume to create a youthful glow that will make you appear well-rested and vibrantly alive. There are a number of factors that make Dr. Berman’s natural facelift procedures different from traditional facelifts:

Features are balanced
One of the keys to achieving a natural facelift is to ensure all features are brought into balance. Traditional facelifts address mid-facial and neck aging, without affecting the eyes and brows. This can create an unnatural look, as some features appear younger while others still show the effects of aging. When Dr. Berman performs a natural facelift, he customizes the procedure to restore facial harmony.  This may mean adding an eyelid lift or brow lift to your facelift, or performing laser resurfacing to restore a youthful glow.

Facial contour is restored
All the layers of the face age over time, not just skin. Cheeks lose volume as we get older, becoming flattened due to the aging of the underlying tissue, fat, and bone layers. Lips can become thinned, and fat deposits can settle under the jawbone, leading to jowls, a sagging jawline, or a fleshy “double chin”. Dr. Berman’s Boca Raton facelift addresses all aspects of your face and neck to restore a natural contour to your face.

This may involve the use of fat grafting to strengthen cheekbone areas and replace volume under eyes, in the area between the lower lip and the chin, and in the nasolabial fold area (the wrinkles which run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth). Dr. Berman may use liposuction to create a sculpted chin line, and incorporate injectable dermal fillers to add volume to marionette lines and nasolabial folds.

Effects are subtle and natural
Facial rejuvenation is a precise art. Less experienced plastic surgeons often remove too much skin when performing facelifts, creating a pulled look that is obvious and unattractive. With more than 20 years’ experience in advanced facial rejuvenation techniques, Dr. Berman has the expertise and knowledge to create a customized facelift perfectly suited to address your specific aging issues. The result is a natural facelift that produces a much more precise and elegant effect than traditional facelifts can ever achieve.

As a dedicated member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), Dr. Berman has devoted his time and case load to not just reconstructive surgery but aesthetic plastic surgery. This means Dr. Berman is a highly qualified plastic surgeon that makes the utmost informed and intelligent decisions regarding aesthetic plastic surgery and medicine. Browlift with Botox

The Benefits of a Non-Invasive Eyebrow Lift

If you’re looking for a way to refresh the appearance of your face without having to undergo a surgical procedure, a browlift with Botox may be the ideal solution. A chemical brow lift can help your face appear more youthful and open, especially if your brow is beginning to overhang your eyes. Botox, which is a purified toxin that weakens and temporarily relaxes muscles, has been used in plastic surgery practices for more than 15 years. It first gained prominence for its ability to remove crows’-feet and frown lines between brows, but it has been used with great success for eyebrow lifts for years. A non-invasive browlift with Botox offers a number of valuable benefits that may make it the best choice for your anti-aging regimen.

Fast Results
With a few strategically placed Botox injections, a plastic surgeon can instantly lift a brow line and lighten the appearance of eyes. The procedure can be performed on a lunch break, because it only takes 10 to 20 minutes and is performed in-office. There’s none of the side effects of more invasive anti-aging techniques, such as swollen tissues or bruises, and no downtime waiting to heal from incisions.

Temporary, Subtle Effects
A chemical eyebrow lift is the ideal approach for someone who wants to improve his or her appearance, but is unwilling to commit to a more permanent, surgical solution. Results typically last for three to four months, and this quick-fix therapy can be repeated as soon as the brow begins to descend again. Non-invasive brow lifts tend to provide a more subtle effect than surgical solutions, which can be an asset for those making their first foray into these anti-aging techniques.

Can Be Combined with Other Approaches
Chemical eyebrow lifts can be combined with other non-surgical anti-aging techniques to make them even more effective.  Laser peels can be used to tighten the skin on the forehead to further elevate the brow line, and dermal fillers can be placed under the brow to lift it. By combining these techniques, it is possible to make eyes appear significantly younger and brighter without entailing any of the complications that can come with surgical procedures.

Experience and skill matter, not just in surgery, but in non-surgical rejuvenation as well. If performed incorrectly, a Botox brow lift can damage your appearance by creating uneven brows so it’s important to go to an experienced plastic surgeon. As a Board certified plastic surgeon with over 20 years’ experience with injectables, Dr. Berman has the necessary skill to ensure your face remains your greatest asset. Liquid Facelift

Answers to your liquid facelift questions

Collagen and elastin production diminishes as we age, causing skin to sag and producing an array of deep and fine lines and wrinkles. While there’s no wonder cream that can reverse the effect of time, there is a full range of injectables and fillers that can create significant improvements in the appearance of skin tone, lines, and wrinkles. In the hands of a skilled, experienced plastic surgeon, these products can create a “liquid facelift” that diminishes wrinkles and lines, and fills out sagging skin to create a more youthful appearance in patients who are not ready for surgical intervention.

What can a liquid facelift do for me?
At its best, a liquid facelift is not a noticeably dramatic change that shouts that you’ve had work done; instead, it just makes you appear more youthful, rested, and vibrantly alive. Using an injectable muscle immobilizing product like Botox, your plastic surgeon can weaken your facial muscles to minimize the appearance of wrinkles on your forehead and relax the “crows’-feet” around your eyes. Your plastic surgeon can create a fuller appearance in sunken areas by using injectable dermal fillers that add volume to flattened cheeks and temples, plump thinning lips, and fill in the deep lines that can form along the side of your nose and chin.

How long will a liquid facelift last?
It’s important to understand that liquid facelifts are not long-lasting solutions. The procedures involved in your non-surgical facelift will need to be repeated anywhere from every few months to every couple of years, depending on the products used. Muscle relaxers such as Botox will need to be repeated every three to four months for the best results. Fillers that contain hyaluronic acid, such as Juvéderm, typically last up to a year. Sculptra, an advanced filler that actually increases collagen production, can last as long as two years. Since each procedure can be done independently, it is easy to get on a maintenance schedule to keep your face continually looking its best.

How long does a liquid facelift take?
A skilled plastic surgeon can perform a simple liquid facelift in about an hour, making it the perfect pick-me-up for a long lunch hour. Recovery time is minimal, and most people are able to resume their daily activities immediately after treatment. Everyone reacts differently to different types of injections. Some patients have slight bruising for a few days around the injection site.

Can any doctor perform a liquid facelift?
Getting a liquid facelift is not like getting a flu shot. That “incredible bargain” of discount Botox and filler provided by your dentist or family doctor can leave you with unsightly lumps and uneven features that you will have to live with for as long as two whole years. You should always turn to a skilled, Board certified plastic surgeon. These highly trained professionals have the experience and in-depth knowledge of facial structure, and finesse to use the exactly right amount of filler to create results that are natural and attractive.

Labiaplasty

The Labiaplasty procedure is among one of the fastest growing trends in the world of cosmetic surgery. A labiaplasty is the reduction and/or realignment of the labia to reduce its outward appearance and correct irregularities in shape and/or size. For many women, large or asymmetrical labia can cause self-consciousness when wearing yoga pants, thongs, bikini bottoms, or other tight-fitting clothing. Furthermore, some women feel awkward or embarrassed about the appearance of their labia during sexual intimacy. And while many women choose to undergo a labiaplasty procedure as a way to enhance their aesthetic look, it can often provide functional benefits for women as well. Chafing, pain during intercourse, and irritation while exercising or wearing tight-fitting clothing are all common symptoms of having large or protruding labia and can be relieved by undergoing the labiaplasty procedure. If you think you might benefit from this surgery please consider viewing labiaplasty before and after photos during your consultation with Dr. Berman to get a better understanding of the expected outcome.

The labiaplasty surgery is a relatively noninvasive procedure that is conducted in office and only takes a few hours. By utilizing a local level two IV sedation, or “twilight sleep,” instead of general anesthesia, the patient is able to immediately recover upon completion of the procedure and avoid the inconvenience and side effects of being completely sedated. Should the patient prefer, the surgery can also be performed using general anesthesia although this will increase the costs and recovery time.  After surgery, women may experience some mild discomfort and swelling, which usually disappears completely after 1-2 weeks. Due to the high blood flow of the area, the incisions of a labiaplasty customarily heal well and are rarely noticeable. Patients are usually incredibly happy with their results and are pleasantly surprised at how little pain there is after the procedure. After the healing process, patients that used to feel embarrassed while wearing bathing suit bottoms, yoga pants, or other revealing clothing are finally able to feel confident with their bodies, no matter what they are wearing. Women who have undergone the procedure feel much more confident about themselves and believe that the surgery has improved their lives for the better.
